Spring burst forth a full month early, it seemed. With February’s waning days clocking in at close to 70 degrees, those of us living in the nation’s capital fear a long and sweltering summer ahead. But who can complain when in mid-March the whole city is awash in pink and white flowering trees? They teased us this year, emerging gleefully and suddenly, threatening to upend the carefully timed Cherry Blossom Festival tourist bonanza that descends onto the city like a heavy blanket. It’s a new joy to walk to work, far from the throngs of onlookers at the Tidal Basin, and pass under their beautiful canopies.
